Parents and students are feeling vertigo as they deal with the changing education directives. In-person or virtual options are sending everyone in a spiral and the babies suffer. Reports show the decline in academic standards across America. As a homeschooler for more than a decade, I'd like to offer some resources that I have used through the years.

The first thing I would strongly recommend is that you as the parent or guardian research your state's educational requirements. In Texas, the expectation is very straightforward and supports parents' rights to choose how to educate their child or children. The curriculum must include reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics, and citizenship.

Contrary to the popular theory that children need to be in school all day. The fact is that children grade 3 and younger can get huge benefits from 1 - 2 consistent hours or academic focus; 3 - 4 hours for 4th-grade and older. This develops healthy study habits and goes far in proving that current school scenarios are no more than daycare for our babies. If we are to advocate that our children are educated in a fashion that enables us to be self-sufficient, what better way than to homeschool your child. With the uncertainty of school access during this pandemic, being proactive in the advancement of our children's academics is crucial.

There are several creative virtual platforms that mimic an in-class experience. For older children, a clear syllabus/ assignment page makes getting started and staying on track.
